Avocados for the desert

Has anyone grown a variety of avo that bears well in the desert?
I'm just having the worst kind of luck with whatever variety I planted
years ago. The thing so rarely flowers and no fruit has ever set, and it's about 8 years old now....and it seems to get burnt on the leaves a lot in summer.....

Aravaipa avocado from Shamus O'Leary tropical fruit trees is supposed to be the avocado that everyone is waiting for. It was discovered in Aravaipa Canyon and is reported to take the heat and cold well. Below is a picture of my that has a little salt burn but this is its first summer so it's unclear. It is a 'B' type flower. Shamus suggests planting a winter mexican avocado for pollination, but any B type would do. I'm leading towards a Sir Prize or Fuerte.

We've also have had discussions about this avocado before, so, I'm not sure how you could have missed it.

Oh, I'm an infrequent visitor here - that's probably why - but this avocado does look good for my desert situation (like you).....I just need to figure out how to get a hold of it...

I think we are more frequent than the actual owner of the page (I'm looking at you PT!). Anyway, to get you up to speed on these, these avocados have thicker leaves than regular avocados, take our desert winters fine and this particular tree is grafted on Lula. My avocado tree is too young to cut though, maybe next year. It's flushing right now, so it's on the right track.

It's too bad; it's funny actually, people over at the Phoenix Fruit Growers page on facebook are constantly being mislead by Californian growers of plants that do well. I can send you some scions next year.
